CarZoon Private Seller Terms and Conditions
These terms govern private-seller accounts, vehicle adverts, the three-month free launch offer, paid listings and optional Featured upgrades on the CarZoon UK automotive marketplace.
Platform operator: CarZoon Automotive Ltd
Company number: SC882384
Effective date: 24 July 2026
Customer support: support@carzoon.co.uk
Key private-seller terms: An eligible private seller receives three calendar months of free standard advertising from account registration and may have up to three active vehicle adverts at one time. Each approved advert runs for 30 days. It then expires and is hidden until the seller reactivates it or marks it sold. Reactivation is free during the Free Period. After the Free Period, a standard 30-day advert or reactivation costs £19.99. There is no automatic charge.
Maintain accurate vehicle availability
At the end of each 30-day Live Period, confirm whether the vehicle remains available. Reactivate the Advert to begin a new Live Period, or select Mark Sold if the vehicle has been sold. Expired Adverts remain unpublished until the Seller updates their status. This process reduces out-of-date vehicle listings, maintains accurate advertised availability and supports reliable search results for buyers.
1. About these terms
These Private Seller Terms and Conditions apply whenever an individual acting wholly or mainly outside their trade, business, craft or profession registers for or uses a private-seller account, submits a vehicle advert, buys an advertising service or otherwise uses private-seller features on carzoon.co.uk.
These terms apply together with our Terms of Website Use, Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and Acceptable Use Policy. If there is a conflict about a private vehicle advert or paid private-seller service, these terms take priority for that subject.
2. The parties and CarZoon's role
The agreement is between:
- CarZoon Automotive Ltd, a private limited company registered in Scotland under company number SC882384, whose registered office is 5 South Charlotte Street, Edinburgh, Scotland, EH2 4AN ("CarZoon", "we", "us" or "our"); and
- the individual private seller who registers for or uses the service ("Seller", "you" or "your").
CarZoon provides an advertising and enquiry marketplace. We do not own the vehicles advertised by private sellers, sell them as principal, act as the Seller's agent, receive the vehicle purchase price, provide escrow, inspect every vehicle or guarantee any vehicle, buyer, enquiry, viewing, test drive, payment or transaction.
Any sale contract is directly between the Seller and buyer. They are responsible for their own checks, communications, documents, payments, insurance, test drives and decisions.
3. Definitions
- Account means a private-seller account registered on CarZoon.
- Advert means a vehicle listing and its associated text, images, video, data and status.
- Active Advert means an Advert occupying one of the Seller's three available slots. Pending Review, Live, Reserved and Paused Adverts are Active Adverts. Sold, Withdrawn and Expired Adverts are not.
- Featured means a temporary paid visibility upgrade, not an endorsement or guarantee of enquiries or sale.
- Free Period means the three-calendar-month period described in section 6.
- Live Period means the 30-day public advertising period described in section 9.
- Private Seller means an individual selling a vehicle outside their trade, business, craft or profession.
- Services means CarZoon's Account, advertising, Featured, enquiry, dashboard and related marketplace services.
4. Private-seller eligibility
To use a Private Seller Account, you must:
- be at least 18 years old;
- live in the United Kingdom and advertise a vehicle located in the UK;
- act wholly or mainly outside any trade, business, craft or profession;
- own the vehicle or have the owner's clear authority to advertise it; and
- provide complete, current and accurate identity and contact information.
Motor traders, dealerships and anyone selling as part of a business must use a Dealer Account. We may request reasonable evidence of identity, address, ownership or authority. We may restrict a Private Seller Account and require dealer registration where activity, volume, frequency, vehicle ownership or other information reasonably indicates trade use.
5. Account registration and security
The agreement begins when you successfully register an Account and accept these terms. You must keep login details secure, use your own accurate information and notify support@carzoon.co.uk promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.
You are responsible for activity through your Account except to the extent it results from CarZoon's breach. You must not sell, transfer, share or create replacement Accounts to avoid limits, checks, expiry, payment or enforcement.
6. Three-month Free Period
Where the free launch offer is displayed when you register, your Free Period starts at the exact date and time your Account registration is successfully completed and lasts for three calendar months. For example, registration at 3:00 pm on 24 July ends at 3:00 pm on 24 October. Where the corresponding date does not exist, the Free Period ends on the last day of that month.
The Free Period belongs to you, not to each vehicle or Account. Creating another Account, deleting an Advert, changing contact details, completing verification or waiting for approval does not restart, pause or extend it. CarZoon may stop offering the promotion to future registrants, but that will not shorten a Free Period already granted unless required for fraud, misuse or a breach of these terms.
During the Free Period, you may submit, reactivate and run standard Adverts without a listing fee, subject to the three-Active-Advert limit, approval and all other terms. Optional Featured upgrades are not included free.
An Advert approved or reactivated before the Free Period ends may finish its current 30-day Live Period. A submission or reactivation requested after the Free Period ends requires payment at the price shown before confirmation.
7. Three-active-advert limit
You may have no more than three Active Adverts at one time during the Free Period. The limit applies across all Accounts and contact details that we reasonably identify as belonging to you or the same household selling activity.
When an Advert becomes Sold, Withdrawn or Expired, it stops occupying an active slot. You may then reactivate it or submit another vehicle, provided you remain eligible and do not exceed three Active Adverts. CarZoon may block duplicate listings, artificial rotation of vehicles or other attempts to evade the private-seller limit.
8. Advert submission and approval
A submitted Advert enters Pending Review and is not public until CarZoon approves it. We may use automated and manual checks, request evidence, correct formatting, ask for changes or reject an Advert that does not meet these terms, applicable law or our safety and quality standards.
Approval is not a vehicle inspection, verification of every statement or endorsement. The Seller remains responsible for the Advert and vehicle. The 30-day Live Period begins only when the Advert is approved and made public.
9. Thirty-day advert lifecycle
| Status | Public? | Timer | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pending Review | No | Not started | Submitted and awaiting approval or requested corrections. |
| Live | Yes | Runs for 30 days | Approved and visible to buyers. |
| Reserved | Yes, marked Reserved | Continues | The vehicle remains visible while a potential sale progresses. |
| Paused | No | Paused | Temporarily hidden by the Seller; still occupies an active slot. |
| Expired | No | Ended | The Seller must Reactivate or Mark Sold. |
| Sold or Withdrawn | No | Ended | The Advert is closed and no longer occupies an active slot. |
We may send reminders before or after expiry, but you remain responsible for checking your dashboard and keeping the vehicle's availability accurate.
10. Reactivate, reserve, pause, mark sold or withdraw
- Reactivate: If the vehicle remains available after expiry, you may start a new 30-day Live Period. Reactivation is free during your Free Period and costs the displayed listing price afterwards.
- Reserve: Use Reserved only for a genuine active prospective sale. The Advert remains public and its timer continues.
- Pause: Temporarily hides the Advert and pauses its timer. A Paused Advert continues to occupy an active slot.
- Mark Sold: Use promptly when the vehicle sells. The Advert closes and its timer ends.
- Withdraw: Use when you no longer wish to advertise. The Advert closes and its timer ends.
A previously approved Advert reactivated without material changes may return to Live without another review. Changes to price, vehicle identity, mileage, ownership, condition, history, images or other material information may require a new review before publication.
11. Paid listings after the Free Period
After the Free Period, the standard price is £19.99 for one 30-day Advert or reactivation, unless a different price is clearly shown before you order. Consumer prices include VAT where applicable.
Payment is one-off for the selected service. A Private Seller Account is not automatically converted into a subscription, and CarZoon will not charge you automatically when the Free Period or an Advert expires. You must actively choose the service and confirm payment.
Before payment, we will display the service, duration, total price, material restrictions and available cancellation information. You must provide a valid payment method and authorise CarZoon or its payment provider to collect the displayed amount.
12. Featured upgrades
During the launch offer, available Private Seller Featured options are:
- 7 days Featured: £2.99; and
- 14 days Featured: £4.99.
The current price and duration shown at checkout apply to your order. Featured is optional and provides temporary additional visibility only. It does not guarantee position, impressions, enquiries, price or sale.
A new or materially edited Advert must still be approved before it becomes public, even if Featured has been purchased. An already approved Live Advert may be upgraded after payment confirmation. When Featured expires, the badge and boost are removed and the Advert returns to standard visibility for the remainder of its Live Period.
13. Consumer cancellation rights
Where the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 apply, you normally have 14 days from the day after entering into a paid service contract to cancel without giving a reason.
If you expressly ask us to begin a paid listing or Featured service during that 14-day period, we may begin immediately. If you then cancel before the service is fully performed, we may deduct a proportionate amount for the service already supplied, where the law permits. If the service has been fully performed after your express request and acknowledgement, your statutory right to cancel may end.
You may cancel by emailing support@carzoon.co.uk with a clear statement identifying yourself, the Advert or order and your decision to cancel. You may use the model wording below, but you do not have to.
Model cancellation wording
To CarZoon Automotive Ltd, 5 South Charlotte Street, Edinburgh, Scotland, EH2 4AN; support@carzoon.co.uk:
I give notice that I cancel my contract for the following advertising service and Advert/order reference: ______________________________.
Ordered on: ____________________
Name: _________________________
Address: _______________________
Date: __________________________
Nothing in these terms limits a cancellation, refund or other remedy that the law requires.
14. Refunds
If CarZoon finally rejects a paid Advert or is unable to publish it, we will refund the affected listing and any unused Featured payment in full. We may first allow you a reasonable opportunity to correct and resubmit the Advert. A refund is not due where publication is prevented by your fraud, unlawful conduct, chargeback abuse or material breach, except where the law requires otherwise.
Once an Advert goes Live, we do not normally give a change-of-mind refund. This does not affect your statutory cancellation rights, your right to a remedy where a paid service is not supplied with reasonable care and skill, or a refund due for a material CarZoon service failure.
Featured time that has already run is normally non-refundable unless required by law or materially affected by a CarZoon service failure. Refunds are made to the original payment method where reasonably possible.
15. Seller promises
Each time you submit, edit, reactivate or keep an Advert Live, you promise that:
- you remain eligible to act as a Private Seller;
- you own the vehicle or have the owner's authority to advertise it;
- the vehicle is available at the stated location and price;
- all information and media are accurate, current and not misleading;
- you have disclosed material facts a reasonable buyer would need;
- you have the right to provide and license all submitted content; and
- the Advert and proposed sale comply with applicable UK law.
16. Advert content and accuracy
You must accurately describe the vehicle, including where applicable its registration, make, model, derivative, year, mileage, condition, ownership, price, service history, MOT information, accident or damage history, insurance write-off category, import status, outstanding finance and any material fault or restriction.
You must not:
- use false, incomplete, manipulated or misleading information;
- hide damage or present stock images as photographs of the actual vehicle;
- use an incorrect registration, mileage, history, MOT or ownership claim;
- copy content without permission or infringe intellectual-property rights;
- post duplicate, bait, fake, unavailable or fraudulent vehicles;
- include unlawful, abusive, discriminatory or unsafe material;
- publish another person's private information without authority; or
- promote credit, finance, insurance or warranty products unless CarZoon expressly permits it and all regulatory requirements are satisfied.
Vehicle data supplied by DVLA, DVSA or another provider may be incomplete, delayed or incorrect. You must review it and tell us about errors before publication. CarZoon's checks do not transfer responsibility for the Advert to us.
17. Vehicle condition, ownership and legal status
You must not advertise a stolen, cloned or unlawfully possessed vehicle, or a vehicle you are not authorised to sell. You must clearly disclose outstanding finance, an insurance write-off category, material accident damage, import status, known serious faults and any legal restriction affecting sale or use.
You are responsible for ensuring that any vehicle driven on a public road is roadworthy, insured, taxed where required and used by a properly licensed driver. Vehicle tax does not transfer automatically to a buyer. Buyers and sellers should independently verify identity, ownership, finance, mileage, MOT, condition and documents before completing a sale.
18. Enquiries, viewings, test drives and sale
You must respond honestly and professionally, keep availability accurate and use reasonable care when arranging calls, meetings, viewings, test drives and payment. Never disclose passwords, verification codes or unnecessary sensitive information, and be alert to fraud, phishing and unusual payment requests.
You and the buyer are responsible for choosing a safe meeting location, confirming identity and driving entitlement, arranging appropriate insurance, supervising any test drive, agreeing the price and terms, checking payment, completing DVLA notifications and retaining suitable sale records.
CarZoon is not a party to the vehicle sale and does not guarantee an enquiry or buyer. Report suspicious or abusive conduct using available reporting tools or by contacting support@carzoon.co.uk.
19. Personal data
CarZoon handles personal data as described in the Privacy Policy. Contact details and enquiries supplied through the platform must be used only to respond to and manage the relevant vehicle enquiry, viewing, test drive or sale.
You must protect buyer information, restrict access to people who need it, not add enquirers to marketing lists without a lawful basis and delete information when no longer needed. Unless a longer period is reasonably required for a dispute, fraud prevention, tax, legal claim or another lawful reason, unsuccessful or inactive enquiry information should normally be deleted within 12 months.
20. Content ownership and licence
You retain ownership of content you create. By submitting it, you grant CarZoon a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence for the period reasonably needed to host, store, reproduce, format, crop, resize, moderate, display, distribute and promote the Advert and CarZoon Services through our website, apps, search services and relevant marketing or social channels.
The licence ends when the content is deleted from active systems, subject to reasonable backup cycles, legal retention, evidence requirements and content already lawfully shared. You may not use CarZoon branding, software or content except as the website and these terms permit.
21. Moderation, removal and account action
We may review, request evidence, correct formatting, refuse, hide, downgrade, pause, expire or remove an Advert, Featured status or Account where reasonably necessary to:
- enforce these terms or applicable law;
- protect users, CarZoon or the integrity of the marketplace;
- investigate fraud, duplicate Accounts, trade use or misleading activity;
- respond to a report, rights claim, regulator or lawful request;
- correct technical, data-quality or security problems; or
- keep expired, sold or unavailable stock out of public results.
Where appropriate, we will explain the action and allow a correction or appeal. We may act immediately where delay could create legal, safety, fraud, security or consumer harm.
22. Service availability
We aim to provide reliable Services but do not promise uninterrupted or error-free availability. We may maintain, update, secure, suspend or change features. Search placement, traffic, enquiries and sale depend on factors outside our control and are not guaranteed.
If a material CarZoon outage prevents delivery of a paid service, we may restore time, re-run the service or provide another remedy required by law. Planned maintenance, reasonable security action and events outside our reasonable control are not service guarantees.
23. Liability and consumer rights
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Nothing affects your statutory consumer rights, including the right for paid Services to be supplied with reasonable care and skill.
CarZoon is responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable when the agreement was made, for business losses suffered by someone using a Private Seller Account for trade purposes, or for loss caused by inaccurate Seller information, a buyer, a vehicle, an off-platform communication or a transaction to which CarZoon is not a party.
You remain responsible for the vehicle, Advert, viewing, test drive, sale and compliance with law. CarZoon does not exclude responsibility for its own acts where the law makes us responsible.
24. Ending the agreement and changes
You may stop using the Services, withdraw Adverts and request Account closure, subject to any information we must retain lawfully. Closing an Account does not create a refund right beyond section 14 or remove liabilities that arose earlier.
We may suspend or terminate the agreement for a material or repeated breach, fraud, unlawful activity, serious safety or security risk, trader misuse of a Private Seller Account, non-payment or where we discontinue the relevant Service. Where reasonable, we will give notice and an opportunity to remedy the issue.
We may update these terms for legal, regulatory, security, operational or service changes. The version accepted for a paid order applies to that order unless law requires otherwise. Material changes affecting future use will be published or notified before they take effect where reasonably possible.
25. General terms, governing law and contact
If a court finds part of these terms unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining terms continue. A delay in enforcing a right is not a waiver. You may not transfer this agreement without our written consent. CarZoon may transfer it as part of a genuine business reorganisation or transfer, provided your consumer rights are not reduced.
Scottish law governs these terms. This choice does not deprive you of mandatory consumer protections in the part of the United Kingdom where you live. You may bring proceedings in the courts of Scotland or, where consumer law permits, the courts where you live.
